Welcome to my web page!
My name is Nicholas Mantas, "Nick" to those who know me. I am a proud native of Brookline, Massachusetts, where I attended Brookline High School. While becoming a member of the National Honor Society I also played both football and lacrosse. I am a devout New England sports fan. Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics, Bruins, and even the New England Revolution.
I attended the University of Arizona where I graduated in 2014 with an interdisciplinary studies degree focused on strength and conditioning coaching. While getting my degree, I was an intern strength and conditioning coach for the Wildcats' football and basketball teams. After graduating, I also interned for one year at the University of San Francisco.
In San Francisco, I was hired by the PAC-12 network where I worked as a replay operator, stage manager, studio camera operator, and other positions as assigned. It was here that I realized that my love of sports television needed more education and specific training in journalism, so I decided to apply to graduate school.
In the fall of 2017, I was accepted to the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University. After completing the one-year program I graduated with a master’s degree specializing in sports journalism.
I began my career at KTXS-TV in Abilene, Texas as the Sports Anchor & Reporter. Here I produced, shot, edited, anchored, and reported on sports stories all over west Texas. Reporting on three football games on Friday night, anchoring sports segments on Saturdays and Sundays, Sunday night producing and anchoring my own 30-minute sports show, and packaging two sports stories on Mondays and Tuesdays.
In December 2019, I began working as a Sports Anchor and Reporter for WLNS-TV in Lansing, Michigan. Breaking news on campus at Michigan State and telling stories of the emotional impact of COVID-19 throughout the community. I anchored sports blocks on weekends and a 15-minute sports show on Sunday evenings called Sports Overtime. Our coverage won the 2020 & 2021 Michigan Association of Broadcasters Best Sports Award and the Associated Press in Michigan 2020 & 2021 Best Sports Coverage Award for our Friday night high school football shows.
After a short stint working as a Sports Updates Anchor with iHeart Radio, I returned to TV as a Sports Reporter for KSAT-12 News in August 2023. My days currently consist of shooting, editing, being on air for my stories, and producing and fill-in anchoring when needed.
I can shoot and edit my material, I'm proficient and sharp with social media. In terms of sports reporting, there are such great stories out there of triumph and skill over adversity. I pride myself on looking for those gems and reporting beyond just the scores.
Thanks for visiting my website. If you have any questions or are just reaching out, I would love to hear from you and appreciate the feedback.
